Dragonrider - Talisman Dragons

Character Card                Token

A Citadel High Elf Silver Helm was to be used as the basis for the Dragonrider, but finding a suitable mount for him was proving to be difficult. After looking through many collection for dragons that were in the right pose, Jeff came up with the idea of using this Blue Dragon, also from Citadel.

The Blue Dragon and his Sorceress mistress are shown in the 1988 Ciadel catalogue on the Stuff of Legends website -

The parts are laid out ready for the conversion. It was obvious that the dragon was going to need some pretty major surgery to make the rider sit properly on it, and this was to be the first time I had used Green Stuff!

The head and body of the dragon after much sawing, shaping, filing, bending and drilling! I think you can make out what I had to do by comparing it to the original.

To the left you can see the dragon near completion. There is a fair amount of Green Stuff used to fill gaps around the arms and legs, as well as the end of the tail.

I also tried to extend the stubby wings of the dragon using more Green Stuff, but as you can see in the picture to the right, this did not turn out very well at all. So after having the model painted, I took the decision to rip the poor chap's wings off!

As with the Questing Knight figure, the Warmaster line of miniatures was the answer for the wings and they were secured to the model after being primed, so as not to spoil the rest of the already painted model.

The finished figure is shown below ready to take on the world of Talisman. It's more of an action pose than the original picture, but I think it's rather good like that!
