Painted Miniatures – 4th Edition Core Set

The best part of collecting the Talisman boardgame (and anything Games Workshop in general) is the treasure trove of associated miniatures, whether metal, plastic or resin, that are available for each game. I’m admittedly pretty picky when it comes to painted figurines, and I am always happy to add more talented artists to my stable of reputable mini-painters.

The Talisman Boardgame Discussion Group on Facebook (hosted by Talisman Island) is full of interesting people talking about our favorite board game. I happened to stumble across the posts of a gentleman named Stefan Kuylenstjerna earlier this year, who was showing off his painted miniatures.

I inquired with Stefan if he’d be willing to do commission work, but he said he doesn’t have the time or ability for that at the moment. But he DID offer to sell me the miniatures he had completed and shared in the Facebook group. With little hesitation, I paid for and received a complete set of painted miniatures from the 4th Edition Revised Core Boxed Set and the 4th Edition Revised Reaper Expansion.

If you too are a fan of the Revised 4th Edition of Talisman, you know how tiny the miniatures are that come with each box. To me, they’d seem nearly impossible to paint well, except perhaps to people skilled in 15mm painting or micro-scale art. Stefan’s painting was excellent all the way around, and even now I’m trying to figure out how he got so many details onto such tiny models! To add even more detail, he painstakingly painted (not flocked!) each of the miniature bases differently, depending on the occupation of each miniature.

Look at the exquisite detail painted onto each base – cobblestones, grassy fields, and even wooden planks.

I’m pleased to have acquired these figures from Stefan, as well as the Reaper Expansion miniatures, which will be posted next week. What do you think? Have you had your Talisman core box painted yet? Let me know in the comments section or share your painted 4th Edition core miniatures on our Facebook page.
