UK Games Expo, May 2026…
Wandering the cavernous halls of the NEC in Birmingham, and trying to find something to do due to the lack of official Talisman content this year, my son – Peter – was chatting away about how he really fancied getting the new Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon box for the upcoming launch of the 11th Edition game from Games Workshop… or are they just called Warhammer these days?
I agreed that it would be a great time for him to get into the game, and we bought some Terminators and an Inceptor Squad to make a start on his Blood Angels army.
We (he) spoke about it more during the day with him insisting that it’d be a great idea for me to start an army so that we could both learn to play together and even join forces to fight the dreaded Orks on Armageddon. Knowing that this would be folly, I said I was okay helping him and we headed to bed ready for our final look around the next day, and then we would get off home.
The morning came, and we headed back to the Element Games stand where we’d spent a small fortune the day before, and he pondered which unit to go for next and eventually settled on some Hellblasters.
Of course, my mind had been mulling over what Peter had said previously, and I’d always had a hankering after playing a smaller form game, like Kill Team, however after a previous spending spree on Necromunda stuff, only to sell it unplayed at rather a large loss, I was a little reluctant to rinse and repeat that behaviour.
However… I absolutely love the idea of the Deathwatch, and there was a Deathwatch Battalion box on the stand, whispering to me through the Warp…
So, I guess I’m now a Deathwatch player.
It’s been a busy (and expensive) couple of weeks since UK Games Expo, and my collection has already increased somewhat. We’ve preordered Armageddon for Peter, and also bought a few units to bulk out his force, and it seems that we haven’t finished quite yet.
Of course, I had to sit down and research releases for Deathwatch, and as ever thought it would be a good idea to catalogue everything I’ve found… and then make a good attempt to recreate all of these releases for the tabletop in some form or another given that a lot of them are long since retired.
The good news is that the majority of these releases were just regular units repackaged with sprues of Deathwatch Upgrades, so the hunt is on…
I’m just going to go ahead and post things in whatever order seems right, and there will be crossovers between boxed sets, repackages and bundles, but hopefully it’ll all make sense!
I might even try to crosslink the various releases so that you can make up the contents of those boxes without having to spend a small fortune trying to find the original thing
