It’s always a bit quiet when you get home from UK Games Expo, especially as it had yet another record attendance this year with a staggering 51,196 unique visitors and a total footfall of 87,837 over the three days!

The pic above shows us as we were queueing for our tickets on the Thursday night, which was also surprisingly busy, but it was a good call as the queues were even bigger on Friday morning!

We decided to opt for a two-day pass this time so we could have a more relaxed wander around rather than the usual Sonic the Hedgehog approach to visiting all of the people I wanted to say hello to and it worked out really well for us.

As you can probably surmise there wasn’t much, if anything, to report about Talisman from the show as there was nothing on display at all from Avalon Hill or Cubicle 7 this year.

Unfortunately, as we are still two weeks away from the official release of Talisman Sagas: Crown of Blood, there were no preview copies available to show and, probably quite sensibly, they decided to concentrate on what they had available for people to buy at the stand. It’ll definitely be at Gen Con Indianapolis in August and Spiel Essen in October though!

The Talisman Adventures roleplaying game was also a no-show, but that’s because it’s still going through editing and whatever else is needed to make it fit for discerning gamers! Hopefully there’ll be more to tell about that in the coming months.

What we did manage to do though is meet up with the handsome rogues, GlenOneN and LordZodz from The Talisman Tavern and play through a demo of HeroQuest: First Light with the Wizards of Morcar expansion. I say a demo, but we actually got through the whole of the first quest, although there may have been some casualties… The game was recorded by the Bathrobe Boys though, so you’ll get to see what happens soon!

It was a nice surprise that we all got a pair of the new promotional miniatures for this year, the Dreadshifters (Mimics to you and me) in a lovely, chocolatey brown plastic. Delicious!*

I believe the boys also played a game or two of Talisman: 5th Edition with the Dead King expansion in the Open Gaming area, but you’ll have to check out their coverage of the show for that.

We decided to head home after the demo as we’d seen and spent plenty (Curse you Warhammer 40,000!) and now we rest…
