Well, it’s been an exciting couple of days since the announcement of a new edition of Talisman by Avalon Hill at the Festival International des Jeux in Cannes!
I’ve posted a few bits and pieces over on Facebook, but I realise not everyone uses it, so I figured I’d do a short recap here…
Firstly, those absolute legends at hasbrofans_fr on Instagram posted the image above as the game appeared in the cabinets on the Avalon Hill/Hasbro stand!
Then the guys at the Magia i Miecz Forum FB page posted some sneaky images from the top and side of the box which it’s assumed show the characters from the upcoming title. Talisman fan, Michael Sparks, also worked some CSI Miami magic on the cover snaps and came up with a few suggestions for them.
Wizard, Minstrel, Warrior, Troll, Sorceress (maybe), Elf, Prophetess and Dwarf. Who do you think the mystery characters are?
Just to add in at this point, the image from the display at the top of the page actually shows a (very poor) image of a couple of characters from the right hand side of the box. As it’s taken from a reflection in the cabinet it’s a little tricky to see anything, but there are definitely faces there!
Over the weekend I added the new edition into the BoardGameGeek database based on the scant information that we’ve actually seen. It’s good to have somewhere to actually ‘wishlist’ the game and become a ‘fan’ while we wait for more information as it all helps to increase the hype for the game!
I found a bit of spare time to make a new cover image for the FB groups, which makes for a nice colourful change. Feel free to use it if you want to!
I even managed to do a small analysis on what the fonts might be that Avalon Hill are using for the new edition… I am so rock and roll!
tl;dr It’s probably a modified Universal Serif and Prince of Darkness…
Finally (for now at least) there’s the question of who those statues on the box cover are supposed to represent. It’s likely that we can see the Prophetess and Troll, with either the Warrior or maybe one of the Knights, and a teeny tiny Minotaur!
I think that’s probably enough for now, but it’s certainly been a fun weekend! Hopefully we’ll get to see a bit more of the game soon as it’s GAMA Expo 2024 from the 3rd of March until the 7th.
I’m not sure what’s after that, but I would hope that there’ll be a showing of the game – maybe even a demo AND the previously leaked expansion – at UK Games Expo from the 31st of May until the 2nd of June!
